50 Rondout Landing, Kingston, NY, 12401, United States
Join us to observe this old-fashioned Amish-style barn raising of the new post-and-beam, Kingston Home Port and Education Center, a joint building project between the Hudson River Maritime Museum and the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater.
Members of the Timber Framers Guild will be on hand starting at 5:00 AM to begin the assembly of the frame. Working throughout the day, a secondary construction crew will assist with other vital parts of the structure such as bents, floor joists, purlins, diagonal braces, and posts.
The general public is welcome to observe these professionals at work, but we ask that non-crew members please stay outside the boundaries of the safety fence. Festivities begin at 2:00 PM.
2:00 PM – Performances by Clearwater’s Power of Song and the Percussion Orchestra of Kingston (a.k.a. “POOK”).
3:00 PM – Remarks by staff, officials, and stakeholders.
4:00 PM – Ceremonial setting of the purlins and frame raising begins.
Please join representatives from Clearwater and the Hudson River Maritime Museum along with state and local officials, donors, and project stakeholders outside the safety fence to observe this historic event.
