Museum open for school and group tours

Standard Tour Program
Approximate Tour Time Allowance: 2 hours
Maximum Capacity: 40 (groups of 30-40 will be divided in two and
run concurrently)
Minimum Group Size: 15, Basic rate for guided tours $5.00/person,
(one adult chaperone admitted with every 10 students)
School Tour Availability: Daily 9:30 - 3:30, May - October
Tour Components (each guided by museum staff or docent)
- Introduction to the Museum.
- A visit with Mathilda, an original 19th century tugboat. Ring
the original bell from the steamboat
Mary Powell, "Queen of the Hudson" from 1861-1918.
- The Rondout Creek, "How Things have Changed".
- Tour of 2007 featured exhibit, "Racing the Wind: Two Centuries
of Iceboating on the Hudson."
- Learn the dynamics of travel, shipping, industry and livelihoods.
- Journey back in time to the 1850's to 1930's where steamships, tug
boats and sloops were the primary mode of transportation for passenger
travel and a thriving local industry.
- NEW FOR 2007! "The Great Hudson River Shipping Race!"
Interactive game where students learn about knots, wind, signal flags,
hard work and life threatening challenges faced by late 1800's sloop
and steamboat captains and crew as they participate in a historically
accurate "race" from Rondout Creek to NY Harbor.
- Optional Video - choose from our divers library selections covering
topics from the environment, tug boats and the ecology of the Hudson
River.
- Visit to the Museum Store.
A nearby waterfront park is ideal for picnic lunches and there are many
excellent restaurants in the Rondout Heritage District.
