Mission Statement

The Hudson River Maritime Museum, Inc. has been established to collect, preserve, research, exhibit, and interpret a collection of historical artifacts related to the maritime heritage of the Hudson River and its tributaries.

Collected artifacts shall include, but not be limited to appropriate vessels, objects, archival material, and art related to river transportation, industries, and recreation which developed in response to the availability of The River.

Industries shall include ice harvesting, brick making, boat building, blue stone quarrying, cement, coal, crushed stone, and any other identified as important. An emphasis shall be placed on the stream era of transportation on the Hudson River, which stimulated the growth of these various industries. The primary period of emphasis shall be the 19th and 20th centuries.

The Museum will create and maintain a body of information in the form a library and archives that will be available to the public for research. It will develop public awareness of the history of life, communities, and industry along the Hudson River though its exhibits, lectures, programs, publications, and festival.

The Museum will seek to create and foster an awareness on the part of the public of the river environment and ecology and the need to preserve this environment. It will create an awareness of waterfront revitalization efforts and foster public advocacy for planned recreational development along the Hudson River and its tributaries.
