Donation/Giving

As a 501(c)3 not-for-profit organization, the Hudson River Maritime Museum is entirely supported by private donations and memberships. HRMM does not receive any state or federal funding except through competitive, project-based grants. Consider making a donation or becoming a member today.

There are a number of ways to support the Hudson River Maritime Museum other than membership and gifts to the general fund.

CAPITAL CONTRIBUTIONS

Museum Infrastructure
The East Gallery can get very cold. And very hot.

The only climate control in this 3,000 sq ft building where we exhibit our largest objects is opening and closing the windows and turning on the fan. We are working on changing that and have a $200,000 EPF challenge grant we need to match to make essential and GREEN upgrades to the facility. We are replacing windows, installing photovoltaic solar panels on the roof, providing HVAC in the gallery, and taking care of the improvements necessary to make this a year round facility.

BEQUESTS AND PLANNED GIFTS

Legacy Society
Become a member of the Legacy Society by planning a gift for the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Legacy Society members who contribute $10,000 or more are recognized on a plaque in the museum gift shop. While we recommend you consult a lawyer for your estate planning, here is sample language that can be used for making a planned gift.

I give to the Hudson River Maritime Museum, a non-profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, headquartered in Kingston, NY the sum of $_______ to be used as a permanent endowment, the income only from which shall be used for its general purposes (or describe the specific purpose, if desired).

Residuary Bequest
Leaves any remainder after all other bequests have been paid.

All the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal, I give to the Hudson River Maritime Museum, a non-profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, headquartered in Kingston, NY for its general purposes.

Contingency Gift
Takes effect only if a primary intention can’t be met.

If (name of beneficiary) does not survive me, or shall die during the administration of my estate, or as a result of a common disaster, then I give to the Hudson River Maritime Museum, a non-profit 501(c)(3) Corporation, headquartered in Kingston, NY all of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, to be used for its benefit.

Safety Language
Language added whenever a gift is restricted.

In the event the purposes of the restriction, in the opinion of the Board of Directors of the Hudson River Maritime Museum can no longer be served, the Board may devote any remaining assets exclusively for charitable purposes that: (a) are within the scope of the charitable purposes of charity (b) most nearly approximate the original purpose of the gift; and (c) benefits charity.

For any type of gift, rather than leaving a sum certain, you can include language that refers to a percentage of your estate or a description of the property you wish to give.
