Maiden

Maiden will be visiting Kingston as part of her world-wide tour encouraging women in STEM. 
​Maiden was the first all female team to participate in the Whitbread Round the World Race.
We will be offering documentary screenings, a lecture with Captain Tracy Edwards, field trip opportunities and community visits to the boat.


Maiden Community Tours

We are excited to host a visit from Maiden, June 8th-11th 2022. She will be at the Hudson River Maritime Museum docks and the general public is invited to visit the sloop and learn more about the Maiden Factor.

​This program is free and open to the public, but donations are encouraged.

HRMM needs volunteers to help feed the crew of Maiden. You can help with limited COVID exposure; just send your famous muffins!
We also need volunteers to assist with programming in two-hour shifts on June 9th and 10th. ​

Join us in Welcoming Maiden​ to the Hudson Valley!
Accompany Sailing Vessel Maiden as she travels North, from NYC to Kingston, or South, from Kingston to NYC.  Make it a short trip or a full day experience.  All vessels welcome - motor, power, sail, kayak, canoe, rowing shells, jet skis. Please let us know where you will be joining us by signing up below.

School & Youth Group Field Trips

As part of their mission to encourage women in STEM, the crew of Maiden will be offering field trip programs designed for students ages 10 to 14 on June 9 - 10.. No charge to school and community/homeschool groups.
 

Each two-hour program will include 4 stations:
- Meet the crew of Maiden & Tour the vessel
- Two Hands-On STEM Learning Stations
- Meet the crew of Clearwater (Environmental Education) & Tour Vessel
or Meet the crew of Apollonia (Sail Freight Vessel) & Tour Vessel

Kingston Sailing Club Welcome Dinner

Join with Kingston Sailing Club as we welcome SV Maiden and her crew to Kingston.  Wednesday, June 8 at 7 pm. (After WOW). Enjoy a barbecue buffet (water station, veggie burgers, hamburgers, hot dogs, buns,  quinoa salad, beet salad, kale /brussell sprouts salad, vegetables, potato salad, macaroni salad) and a cash bar under the beautiful white tent by the shores of the Rondout Creek, at Ole Savannah Restaurant, 100 Rondout Landing, on the Kingston Waterfront. $38 per attendee.

Maiden Apprenticeships

During our 3 year, 90,000 nm tour we will be taking Apprentices for various lengths of time. This position is for a young
female novice sailor that would like the opportunity to sail and learn, be mentored and travel and explore life opportunities whilst helping girls around the world access an education.

Requirements;
18 years old
Will have sailed for at least year
ideally, have an RYA Competent Crew certificate. (However, with a good reference we will book and pay for the successful applicant to have her ENG1 and take her Competent Crew, STCW and First Aid before she joins.)
Our applicant needs to be recommended by a teacher, sailing instructor or sailing programme leader.

Tracy Edwards MBE was the skipper of Maiden in 1989-1990, leading the first all-woman crew to race around the world.
​In 2017, Tracy and her team rescued the long-abandoned vessel.  Now, they are pursuing a new mission, sailing Maiden in support of education for girls and other underrepresented people throughout the world with 
"The Maiden Factor Foundation."  Learn more from Tracy herself in this lecture.
