Waterfront Walking Tours

Rondout Waterfront Walking Tours

The Hudson River Maritime Museum hosts a walking tour of the Rondout waterfront on the first and third Saturdays of each month, May through October. Join us for a walk along Rondout Creek as we discuss the industrial and maritime heritage of the Rondout, including the Thomas Cornell Steamboat Company and tugboats, ferries, passenger steamboats, Delaware & Hudson Canal, and more.

Tour meets in front of the Hudson River Maritime Museum at 1 pm. $10 for HRMM members, $15 for non-members. Tickets include general museum admission.

If you’d like to learn more about the Rondout neighborhood, please join a walking tour from our partner organizations! Friends of Historic Kingston offers a tour of Broadway and west covering historic architecture and influential Kingstonians on the fourth Saturday of every month at 1 pm and meets in front of the Visitor’s Center on lower Broadway. The Reher Center for Immigrant Culture and Heritage offers a tour of Broadway and the neighborhood focusing on the immigrant and workaday experiences on the second Sunday of every month.

Industrial Waterfront Cruises

Each Saturday that the museum offers a walking tour of the Rondout, we also offer a waterfront cruise!

Starting at 11:30 am and returning to dock at 12:45 pm, each cruise aboard the 100% solar-powered tour boat Solaris journeys up Rondout Creek along the south side of Island Dock (walking tour proceeds along the north side) and includes a narrated tour of the creek west of the Hudson River Maritime Museum. Landmarks include sunken barges and the remains of the steamboat Mary Powell, cement manufacturing, the Wurts Street suspension bridge and railroad bridge, the D&H canal, bluestone docks, boatbuilding, and more!

We encourage visitors interested in industrial history to make a day of it and book both a cruise and a tour. Visitors are welcome to bring lunch aboard the boat.
