Tall Ship Kalmar Nyckel At the museum August 21-28, 2021
Kalmar Nyckel, The Tall Ship of Delaware, returns to the Kingston waterfront on August 21 through 28, to host ship tours and day sails that are open to the public.
Sailing tickets can be purchased in advance online. Deck tours are available on site, first come first served.
The original Kalmar Nyckel was one of the great ships of America's colonial era, weathering eight transatlantic crossings (more than any ship in its day). Known as the Swedish Mayflower of the Delaware Valley, she brought the settlers who founded the colony of New Sweden in 1638 and established Fort Christina, the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley.
Today's full-scale replica (141' sparred) was launched in Wilmington, Delaware in 1997 and serves as a floating classroom and an inspritainoal platform for educational outreach. The ship is operated by the Kalmar Nyckel Foundation wil a professional staff and 200 trained volunteer crew. Learn more at www.kalmarnyckel.org.
