Solar Sal Boats was inspired by the quiet, human-powered canoes and guideboats of the Adirondacks. Since 2010 the company has been building displacement boats entirely powered by the sun that are clean, quiet, and environmentally friendly. Our goal is to make solar-electric boating accessible. Our name is derived from the mule named Sal, celebrated in the famous Erie Canal song. We’ve built boats of various sizes: 25’, 27’ 40’, 44’and 24’. Solaris, built here at HRMM, is our crown jewel. She is the only 100% solar-powered passenger boat to receive a US Coast Guard Certificate of Inspection.
