The Hudson River Maritime Museum supports research of all aspects of Hudson River history. We assist professional and hobbyist researchers and in the past have helped people find information about:

In addition to assisting professional researchers with historic and primary source documents, we can help curious and student researchers through our extensive collection of history articles, written by  historian contributors to our annual Pilot Log publication on a wide variety of topics. ​

    Research Requests

    Often our curatorial staff is able to answer simple research questions via e-mail or a phone call. For more in-depth research requests, please make an appointment for an in-person visit to the museum, especially for use of the archives and/or the museum's research library. 

Research Fees

Researchers who wish to visit our archives and conduct on-site research may do so free of charge. Long term and large research projects will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. 

If you are unable to conduct the research yourself, our skilled curatorial and archival team are happy to assist you with more in-depth research. The first thirty minutes of research by HRMM staff are free, with an hourly rate after that.
  • First 30 minutes - FREE
  • $25/hour after first thirty minutes

Digital Images Fees
We also have thousands of digitized images and thousands more in our archival collections. The following rates apply to all users, including authors and book publishers. 
  • Previously scanned digital images - first 5 images FREE, $8/image (6+)
  • Images scanned upon request - $8/image

HRMM members receive a 10% discount on digital images. Digitization requests for oversized or specialized items will be assessed on a case-by-case basis.  Research fees and digital images are subject to New York State sales tax. The rate is based on the New York county in which the purchaser and/or company intended to receive information resides. Out of State purchases or services are not taxable. Tax exempt forms must be provided to the bookkeeper. Emails of forms are acceptable and may be sent to Liz Feser.
