Ensure your legacy
Many people believe estate planning is important—but something that can be postponed. Developing your estate plans today, however, yields many benefits. By including the Hudson River Maritime Museum in your long-term plans, you can achieve goals that are important to you—and gain the peace of mind that comes from knowing that your wishes will be honored and others will benefit from your generous gift.

Heritage Society
When you include the Hudson River Maritime Museum in your estate plans, you become part of the Heritage Society and ensure that generations of visitors will benefit from your foresight and generosity.

As a Heritage Society member, you will receive a lifetime membership to the museum which gives you access to special exhibits and galleries, recognition in the annual report, and opportunities to engage in the numerous programs and events throughout the year.

Planned gifts build the Hudson River Maritime Museum’s endowment, provide income for immediate use, strengthen our collection, and enhance our education programs. The future of the Hudson River Maritime Museum is only possible because of the loyalty and commitment of donors like you.

You Could Make a Gift in Your Will or Estate
Making a gift through your will of estate plan can be directed in a few ways:
  • An unrestricted gift for use where the need is greatest.
  • A restricted gift for a specific purpose or project.
  • The endowment fund, a gift that lasts in perpetuity for general proposes
Naming the Hudson River Maritime Museum as a beneficiary of your retirement plan, IRA, life insurance policy, bank, or brokerage account is a generous way to make a legacy gift ‘outside’ a will.

We recommend that you consult your financial advisor and/or a lawyer to determine which planned giving option works best for you.

Here is sample language that can be helpful:

"This community has truly been good to me, and some of my best friends and best memories have come from my work at the Museum. When I think of my estate, I like to think that Tebbie's and my contribution will help continue all of the good work that was started here."
- John C. Weeks, M.D.

Founded in 1980 by steamboat enthusiasts, tugboat enthusiasts, and local citizens, the Hudson River Maritime collects and exhibits materials related to Hudson River transportation, industries, and recreation. Its collection includes paintings, prints, photographs, ephemera, blueprints, artifacts, ship models, and vessels. In recent years, the Museum has expanded to include education programs, the Wooden Boat School, the Sailing & Rowing School, a wooden boat restoration shop, and the homeport for the sloop Clearwater.

Your legacy gift will help ensure that the Hudson River Maritime Museum will continue as a vital part of our community for years to come.
