In Memory of Dennis J. Suszkowski Thank you for remembering Dennis J. Suszkowski with your generous tribute donation to the Hudson River Maritime Museum. On behalf of the Museum family, please accept our sympathy during this time of loss. Dennis J. Suszkowski served as the Science Director of the Hudson River Foundation and advocated tirelessly for scientific and environmental research on the Hudson River and its tributaries. He and his wife, Mary, are supporters of the Hudson River Maritime Museum and graciously donated a barge model and family photographs of the Leach Transportation Line. These artifacts and images were essential in supporting the Museum's exhibits on the Hudson River and its canals. Today, the barge model remains a favorite of kids of all ages. Support Hudson River Stewards: Inspire the next generation by sending a fourth-grade class, an entire school district, or just one student to our Hudson River Stewards program. Trained museum educators perform an in-class presentation, and the class then takes part in a day-long field trip to the museum. Hudson River Stewards seeks to create a greater understanding of the importance of local history in line with New York State curriculum and inspire students to become stewards of the Hudson River. Support YouthBoat: Spark the curiosity of teens and sponsor a student participating in YouthBoat. Here students from diverse backgrounds work alongside skilled craftsmen, putting STEM skills to work as they follow building plans, use specialized tools, and solve problems. YouthBoat is designed to empower youth, build character, and foster teamwork through the traditional craft of wooden boat building. Students often use these skills in additional vocational training. Donate today.
Support Sailing & Rowing School: Help produce a new generation of sailing and rowing enthusiasts by supporting the Sailing & Rowing School. We partner with the Kingston Sailing Club, Rondout Rowing Club, and the YMCA to offer on-the-water sailing and rowing workshops. Beyond teaching the basics of sailing and rowing, water safety is a key focus of both these programs. Being on the water is the best way to truly understand the history and beauty of the Hudson River, and foster a better appreciation of the river that ties our communities together. Check our our sponsorship opportunities or donate today.
Lecture Series: Cultivate a better understanding of our shared maritime heritage by sponsoring our Follow the River Lecture Series. Acclaimed local historians lead discussions for life-long learners throughout the year on topics ranging from the history of environmental activism in the Hudson Valley, industrial history, immigration, wooden boat building, and Native Peoples. Lectures are free to all museum members; there is a nominal fee to the general public.
Exhibit Development: Protect our heritage by informing the community of the unique history we share by sponsoring an exhibit. Recent exhibits have focused on the history of tugboats, the art of model-making, New York State's canal ways, and environmental activism of the Hudson River. Our current endeavor is incorporating climate change into our permanent exhibits. This important inclusion illustrates climate change is not an abstract concern for the future, but an issue facing us today. Check out our sponsorship opportunities or donate today.
Collection Preservation: Preserve our history by contributing to collection preservation and acquisition. This fund will assist the Hudson River Maritime Museum in acquiring, stabilizing, and preserving artifacts crucial to our understanding of the past. Artifacts, photographs, and ephemera are a physical reminder of our history, and with your help, the museum can ensure that they exist in perpetuity for generations to learn from. Donate today.
Tribute Gifts: Make traditional gift-giving occasions particularly meaningful by safeguarding our maritime heritage. Whether it is a birthday, wedding, anniversary or other occasion, consider asking those who are celebrating with you to give a donation to The Hudson River Maritime Museum in lieu of gifts.
Memorial Gifts: Honor the memory of your loved one by making a gift in their name. All memorial gifts will be acknowledged through a personal note to the family of your loved one.
