Registration is Brisk for Maritime Museum’s Adult Sailing School 2022 SeasonKingston N.Y.- During the past two years during Covid, demand for uplifting activities in general and outdoor recreation in particular, along with the positive experiences shared by our many students, have spurred the growth of The Sailing School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. In 2022, we are offering more classes than in previous years; however, classes are filling rapidly, so students should sign up promptly. Adult sailors will find a variety of on-the-water classes beginning in May, 2022. First Sail offers an introduction to sailing aboard our classic catboat Tidbit, with a US Sailing certified instructor. Learn the basics of sailing and enjoy two hours on the beautiful Rondout Creek and Hudson River. Beginners are welcome, as are experienced sailors. Instructors will customize the class for the participants in each class. Adult Keelboat Sailing Series is a three-session series of classes designed for adult students (18+) who are new to keelboat sailing or who would like to learn more about keelboat sailing. US Sailing-certified instructors will teach or review the basics of sailing on board a stable 24 or 25 foot keelboat. Participants will get to practice various crew skills and will participate in sailing the boat. Instructor/student ratio is 1:4. Adult Centerboard Sailing Series - Students in this three-session series of classes sail on our 14 and 16-foot Capri centerboard sailboats. It gives students a intimate feel of the waves and water. The series is designed for agile adults with no prior experience required. Students will sail with a US Sailing Certified instructor and two other adults . US Sailing Basic Keelboat is open to adult beginning sailors as well as more experienced sailors. This 21-hour class covers a robust curriculum created by US Sailing, the national governing body of our sport. The course will use the "Basic Keelboat" textbook published by US Sailing. The class will be taught primarily on the water aboard the Sailing School's 24-foot and 25-foot stable keel boats. Students will practice their on-the-water skills to gain confidence in operating their vessels. At the end of the course, qualified students will have the option of taking the test to qualify for the US Sailing Basic Keelboat certification. Early Registration is recommended!
