​ RESEARCHING YOUR HUDSON VALLEY ROOTS

KINGSTON, N.Y. (October 19, 2023) – The Hudson River Maritime Museum is pleased to announce the upcoming lecture, Researching Your Hudson Valley Roots with professional genealogist Michelle Dowd Torosian. This presentation will be held in-person at the museum's Wooden Boat School on Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at 7:00 PM.

Are you interested in tracing your family’s roots in New York but aren’t sure where to start? Genealogy is a fascinating hobby, but tracing your New York ancestors might not always be smooth sailing. Join professional genealogist Michelle Dowd Torosian as she shares tips and techniques for navigating the unique records of the Empire State along with illustrative examples from the archives of the Hudson River Maritime Museum.

About the Presenter: 
Michelle Dowd Torosian is a professional genealogist who helps clients with their family history research needs, from solving family mysteries, recovering lost stories or compiling a house history for a beloved home. Michelle is an experienced researcher in both traditional and genetic genealogy and has consulted for museums and historical groups.

About the Follow the River Lecture Series
For more than a decade the Hudson River Maritime Museum's "Follow the River Lecture Series" has hosted historians, authors, and maritime experts for engaging illustrated talks on a variety of regional history and maritime subjects. In recent years, many of the lectures have also been recorded and are available on YouTube. The Hudson River Maritime Museum is dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime history of the Hudson River, its tributaries and related industries. In addition to extensive collections documenting maritime transportation, industry, recreation, and natural science, the museum offers classes and programs at its Wooden Boat School, Sailing and Rowing School, and aboard Solaris, the 100% solar powered tour boat and floating classroom.
