KINGSTON, NY – On Saturday, September 10 and Sunday, September 11, 2016, the Hudson River Maritime Museum and the Trolley Museum of New York will host a joint commemoration weekend to remember those lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Historic fireboat John J. Harvey will be docked at the Hudson River Maritime Museum on both days. The Harvey is the retired FDNY fireboat that assisted with the evacuation of lower Manhattan on 9/11, and pumped water to fight the World Trade Center site fires.  Free public deck tours will be offered on Saturday from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm and on Sunday from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.  From 3:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Sunday, there will be a ceremonial “reading of the roll” to remember the over 400 first responders who lost their lives on 9/11.

HRMM will offer free museum admission to first responders and their families, and a $2 discount off all museum admission rates for the general public on both Saturday and Sunday. The museum will present multiple screenings of Eyepop Productions 12-minute documentary film Boatlift in HRMM’s Kingston Home Port and Education Center, and will host other “courage and rescue” themed activities throughout the weekend.

The Trolley Museum of New York will hold a formal 12:00 noon dedication ceremony on Sunday with City of Kingston Mayor Steve Noble for its PATH train car 143, the “last car” that had been parked underneath the World Trade Center on 9/11. The Volunteer Fireman’s Hall and Museum of Kingston will display vintage fire equipment in the TMNY parking lot.

A full schedule of events for this weekend can be found at: http://www.hrmm.org/september-11th-memorial.html. Times and activities are subject to change.

The 115-foot long Viking ship Draken Harald Hårfagre, on its Expedition America 2016 tour, also will be docked at HRMM and open for deck tours (by admission fee) on Saturday, September 10.  However, in deference to the solemnity of the September 11 events, the Draken ship will be closed to the public on Sunday.

Hi Loretta - Draken is planning to be at Scarano's Boatyard in Albany on Thursday, September 8th to get its mast stepped back up before heading south to Kingston that same day. So look for them to pass New Baltimore sometime during the afternoon on Thursday!

If this type of event is ever happening again then it would be really nice of you to inform me. I am always interested to attend these types of events where you are able to meet new people.
