FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Jody Sterling, Sailing School Manager, [email protected] KINGSTON, N.Y. – The Sailing School at the Hudson River Maritime Museum and the Kingston Sailing Club are pleased to announce registration for the Sixth Annual Riverport Women’s Sailing Conference, March 24 - 25, 2023, is now open.
The 2023 Riverport Women’s Sailing Conference (RWSC) is co-sponsored by the Kingston Sailing Club and will be held in person, on land, at the Hudson River Maritime Museum in Kingston, New York. This year’s theme is “A Rising Tide Lifts All Boats.” The RWSC welcomes people who have not traditionally been able to learn to sail into the maritime community and offers them the opportunity to improve their sailing skills. All are welcome to register. Join us on Friday, March 24, from 6:00 to 9:00 pm, for a welcome dinner and Keynote address to be delivered by Captain Stefany Coulter, who will talk about her unique journey in creating a maritime-centered life and her inspirational SailHope program. Located in Catskill, New York, SailHope brings people who normally do not have access to sailing on the water at no cost. Conference registrants will enjoy a full Saturday of workshops, networking, coffee/light breakfast, lunch, and door prizes. Participants will select four or more workshops on topics including The Science of Sailing; A Women-Focused Museum Gallery Tour; Becoming A Boat Owner; Sailing and Sustainability; Terrestrial Navigation with Charts; Basic Inland Navigation Rules; Coastal and Offshore Passage Planning; Environmental Education and Sail Training; Weather for the Mariner; Outboard Engine Troubleshooting; Diesel Engine Maintenance; Knots & Line Management; Introduction to Racing, Spinnaker Racing, and Double-Handed Racing. Early Registration is recommended! Sign up early to assure a spot in the conference, which is limited to 75 people and which usually sells out. Tuition ranges from $60 - $85 with an online attendance option for $50. The Hudson River Maritime Museum is located along the historic Rondout Creek in downtown Kingston, N.Y. HRMM is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and interpretation of the maritime history of the Hudson River, its tributaries, and related industries.
