MARINE NEWS. Port of Norfolk and Portsmouth. From the Steam-Boat Hotel Reading Room Book. Saturday, August 12. ARRIVED: *** This day -- sch'r Caroline, (of N. York,) Rhodes, (late Wm. F. Rhodes) 52 days from Mobile, and 35 from Mobile Point, with a cargo of Cotton. -- The Caroline was bound to New-York, but put in here in distress, being short of water and provisions, her sails torn to pieces, and three of her crew sick. The capt. Wm. F. Rhodes, of New-York, died at sea on 7th inst. in lat. 34 15, to the southward of Cape Hatteras. James Erskine, a native of Damariscotta, (M.) a seaman, died on board, at sea, on 29th July. the Caroline made the land to the southward of Ocracock on 6th inst. and same day experienced a heavy gale of wind, during which the wedges of the foremast worked out, and one of her fore shrouds was carried away. -- The Caroline has been ordered to Quarantine.
